Silicone vs bromobutyl - the trade-off to know
Silicone has significantly higher gas and water vapour permeability than bromobutyl rubber - meaning it is not the right choice for oxygen-sensitive or moisture-sensitive formulations requiring a strong barrier. Silicone's advantages (biocompatibility, thermal range, clarity) are best applied where barrier performance is not the primary requirement, or where it is combined with other packaging barrier layers (e.g. an overwrap or barrier outer pack).
