Watch the machine crimp 13mm caps on 3ml vials, then switch to 20mm caps for 10ml and 30ml formats

If you're running a small pharmaceutical operation, compounding pharmacy, or supplement production line, the crimping equipment question usually forces a choice: buy one machine for each cap size, or manually crimp everything. This electric capper eliminates that choice - one machine handles both 13mm and 20mm formats.

The video above shows what that looks like in practice: crimping 3ml vials with 13mm aluminum caps, then adjusting the head and moving to 10ml and 30ml vials with 20mm caps. The same electric motor, the same base unit, two different crimping heads that swap in seconds.

For operations filling multiple vial sizes - peptide formulations in 3ml vials, vitamin injections in 10ml vials, larger-volume solutions in 30ml vials - this flexibility means one piece of equipment can handle your entire closure workflow.

Cap Size Reference Chart

Quick reference for matching vial sizes to cap diameters and crimping heads:

Vial Volume Cap Diameter Crimping Head Common Applications
3ml 13mm 13mm Head Peptides, small-dose vaccines, clinical samples
10ml 20mm 20mm Head Injectable vitamins, steroids, multi-dose vials
30ml 20mm 20mm Head Bulk solutions, reagents, large-volume injectables

Key Features That Matter

⚡

Electric Operation

button activation. Consistent crimping force every time, no hand fatigue from manual crimpers.

🔄

   Quick Head Change

Swap between 13mm and 20mm crimping heads in under a minute. No tools required, just unscrew and replace.

📏

Adjustable Depth

Fine-tune crimping depth to match cap style and vial neck height. Prevents over-crimping that damages rubber stoppers.

🎯

   Centered Crimping

Built-in vial positioning guide ensures caps align concentrically. Eliminates the off-center crimps that cause seal failures.

🏗️

Benchtop Design

Compact footprint fits on standard lab benches. Stable base prevents tipping during operation.

🔌

Standard Power

110V/220V single-phase. Plug into any standard outlet - no special electrical installation required.

How the Crimping Process Works

The video demonstration shows the complete workflow. Here's what's happening at each stage:

For Rubber Stopper + Aluminum Cap Crimping

     1. Insert rubber stopper into vial - manually push the bromobutyl rubber stopper into the filled vial

     2. Place aluminum cap on top - the aluminum cap (with flip-off center or solid) sits over the stopper

     3. Position vial in crimper - place the vial assembly into the crimping head's centering guide

     4. Activate crimping cycle - press the foot pedal or start button; the head descends and crimps

     5. Crimp completes - the aluminum skirt folds under the vial neck lip, creating a hermetic seal

     6. Remove sealed vial - lift out the finished vial; the crimper automatically resets for the next one

For Plastic Lid Crimping

Plastic combination caps (rubber stopper integrated into a plastic housing) follow a simpler process: place the assembled cap onto the filled vial, position in the crimper, and activate. The crimping head compresses the cap's outer ring, securing it to the vial neck.

Crimping time per vial: Approximately 2-3 seconds from vial insertion to completed seal. For a 100-vial batch, expect 3-5 minutes of crimping time once you establish a rhythm.

Why Multi-Format Matters

The alternative to a multi-format crimper is either:

Option A: Multiple Single-Format Machines

Buy separate crimpers for 13mm and 20mm caps. This means:

      Capital cost: $300-$1,200 per machine × 2 = $1,600-$2,400 total investment

Space: Two machines occupy twice the bench space

Maintenance: Duplicate inventory of spare parts and service complexity

Option B: Manual Hand Crimpers

Use hand-operated crimping tools. This results in:

Labor intensity: Hand fatigue after 50-100 crimps, limiting daily output

Inconsistency: Crimping force varies based on operator fatigue and technique

Quality issues: Over-crimping damages rubber stoppers; under-crimping causes seal failures

This Machine's Approach:

One electric crimper, two quick-change heads, consistent results across both cap sizes. For operations filling 50-500 vials daily across multiple formats, it's the practical middle ground between manual labor and industrial automation.

Before You Buy: What to Verify

Confirm Your Vial and Cap Specifications

Not all "10ml vials" have identical neck dimensions. Before ordering, verify:

Vial neck outer diameter (should match ISO 8362-1: 13mm for 3ml, 20mm for 10ml/30ml)

Cap supplier (confirm aluminum caps match standard 13mm or 20mm crimping profiles)

Rubber stopper dimensions (particularly flange thickness if using pre-inserted stoppers)

Test Crimp Quality

A properly crimped vial should exhibit:

Aluminum skirt folded evenly around the entire vial neck circumference

No gaps between the crimped edge and the vial neck

Rubber stopper compressed but not deformed or torn

Flip-off center (if applicable) remains intact and easily removable

Plan for Head Storage

When not in use, the spare crimping head needs protected storage to prevent damage to its precision surfaces. Many operations keep both heads mounted on the machine (if bench space allows) to eliminate changeover time.

Ready to Eliminate Manual Crimping?

Whether you're crimping 50 vials per week or 500 per day, this multi-format electric crimper can handle your 13mm and 20mm cap requirements with a single machine.
