Uses of injection pens

The main purpose of injection pens is to improve patient compliance by making it easier and more convenient for people to use injectable therapies. This is particularly problematic for injectable medications, as injections require extra work and people may be reluctant to self-administer medications.
Injection pens improve patient compliance by increasing the convenience and portability of self-administering medications. In addition, injection pens are easier to operate and use than vials and syringes, which is useful for people with low dexterity, cognitive or visual impairment, or concerns about using vials and syringes correctly. For medications that not everyone follows a standard dose, the design of injection pens may make it easier and more accurate to inject a precise dose, whereas vials and syringes require patients to prepare the correct dose themselves. Injection pens may also eliminate the stigma or fear of using injectable medications in public, such as injecting insulin before a meal at a restaurant.
Combination pens contain multiple medications for a single condition and are designed to reduce the number of times a patient must inject medications. Reducing the number of injections required may reduce the risk of non-adherence due to forgetting or being reluctant to self-administer medications.
