A new way to self-administer medication

What is a pen syringe/injection pen?
A pen syringe is a new type of portable medical device that uses a manual pump to push the liquid medicine for injection. Pen syringes are often used for insulin medication for diabetic patients. Before the introduction of pen syringes, patients needed to use syringes to remove liquid medicine from ampoules or vials for injection. For patients who need to inject medicine frequently, this injection method seriously affects the patient's daily work and life. Pen syringes are very convenient for patients to take medicine by themselves. As protein and peptide drugs gain more and more attention, pen syringes have more and more extensive application prospects and are used more and more widely.
Composition of pen syringes/injection pens

Mainly composed of pen cap, pen core holder, pen core (rubber membrane, pen core tube, rubber piston), pen body (mechanical device: piston rod, dose display, dose adjustment, injection push button), needle (outer needle cap, inner needle cap, needle, protective sheet).
1. Pen cap: The pen cap is used to protect the pen core and mechanical device, and does not come into direct contact with the liquid medicine. The material is usually PC/ABS, which has good mechanical properties and chemical inertness.
2. Pen core holder: used to install and protect the pen core, not in direct contact with the liquid medicine, and usually made of PC/ABS.
3. Pen core: composed of rubber membrane, pen core tube, and rubber piston, it is a system for storing liquid medicine, which is in direct contact with the liquid medicine and needs to have good compatibility and sealing.
4. Pen body: the core mechanical device of the injection pen, including piston rod, dose display, dose adjustment, injection push button and other parts, through the precise coordination of these precision devices to achieve the purpose of precise drug delivery.
5. Needle: including outer needle cap, inner needle cap, needle, protective sheet, needle is usually made of stainless steel, and needs to have excellent rigidity and sharpness.
How to use pen syringe/injection pen

1. Open the package of pen syringe, take out the pen syringe, and check whether it is intact.
2. Take out the pen core, check whether it is intact, confirm the name and dose of the drug, put it into the pen core, and then disinfect the rubber membrane at the front end of the pen core with 75% alcohol (disinfection is required before each use, and the pen core is usually replaced after use).
3. Install the needle, stand the pen upright so that the bubbles in the refill gather at the top, and drain the bubbles in the refill until a drop of liquid medicine is discharged.
4. Disinfect the injection site with 75% alcohol, pinch the skin of the injection site with your left hand, hold the injection pen with your right hand, quickly insert the needle vertically, press the injection button with your right thumb to slowly and evenly inject the liquid medicine, stay for about 10 seconds after injection, then quickly pull out the needle in the direction of the needle, and press the needle eye with a cotton swab.
5. Cover the needle cap, collect the needle, and take it to the hospital for centralized treatment. Put the pen syringe back into the packaging box and keep it away.
Advantages of pen syringes/injection pens
1. Convenient to use: The pen syringe can be injected directly after the needle is replaced. It is very convenient for clinical use and is suitable for self-administration of patients who inject drugs for a long time.
2. Prevent contamination: The pen syringe eliminates the traditional step of using a syringe to transfer the liquid medicine vial, reducing cross-contamination and secondary contamination during the injection process.
3. Reduce drug waste: Pen-type syringes are suitable for multi-dose drugs and can effectively avoid drug waste.
4. Accurate dosage: Pen-type syringes use precise mechanical adjustments to adjust the dosage, which is more accurate than manual extraction of liquid medicine by medical staff.
