Open-base (bottomless) cylindrical tube in neutral borosilicate glass. The base is open to accept the plunger stopper; the top neck end receives the crimp cap and needle stopper.

Rubber closure stopper
Pharmaceutical-grade rubber stopper seated at the needle end of the cartridge, below the crimp cap. Self-sealing after needle penetration. Held in place by the crimp seal.
03 · dual-layer cap
8 mm aluminium lined seal
8 mm two-layer aluminum crimp cap: outer pharmaceutical-grade aluminum shell plus inner liner for enhanced sealing integrity. Crimped onto the vial neck to form a permanent, tamper-evident hermetic closure.

Why the open-base
cartridge format matters
Open-base tube construction
Unlike a standard vial (which has a closed round base), the cartridge body is a tube open at both ends. The base end accepts the rubber plunger stopper after filling. This allows the pen injector's screw drive mechanism to advance the plunger forward and push the drug through the needle at the top.
Dual-layer 8 mm aluminium cap
The two-layer construction - outer aluminum shell plus inner liner - provides a tighter, more uniform crimp seal compared to single-layer caps. The inner liner cushions the stopper and prevents metal-to-glass contact stress during crimping, reducing the risk of micro-fractures at the vial neck.
Neutral borosilicate glass
"Neutral" borosilicate (Type I, hydrolytic class 1) means the glass does not release ions into the drug solution at measurable levels under normal storage conditions. This is essential for pH-sensitive formulations like insulin, which would degrade if the container leached alkali into the solution.
